second separate edition, following an 1859 appearance in the New York Herald. This anonymous pamphlet is a condensation of a series of articles written by Mortimer Thompson, a New York journalist who traveled to Savannah and attended the sale of 429 slaves, "men, women, children and infants," the remains of the enormous Butler Plantation that was immortalized by Frances Anne "Fanny" Kemble in her "Residence on a Georgia Plantation" (1839).
